The Dixie Regional Library System is a public library system serving a population of 62,311 in three rural counties in Northeast Mississippi. DRLS was first formed in 1960 by the joining of the Pontotoc County Library with the town libraries of Bruce and Calhoun City in Calhoun County. The city of Vardaman, which is also in Calhoun County, joined the system in 1974.
The current structure of 3 counties came into existence in 1976 with the addition of Chickasaw County which includes 2 of the 3 original Carnegie Libraries in Mississippi, located in Houston and Okolona, Mississippi. Another small Chickasaw County branch is located in Houlka. Sherman’s Community Library in Pontotoc County became the eighth Branch in 1988.
